Missing Person – Samantha Gabriel: C19-161570

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance with locating Samantha Gabriel, a 16-year-old female. She was last seen in the downtown area of Winnipeg in the evening of July 12, 2019.

Gabriel is described as Indigenous in appearance, 5'4" in height with a medium build, dark brown hair that is mid length down her back. She was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt, black sweats and black runners. Gabriel has a cross tattoo near her left eye and the same on her right middle finger.

The Winnipeg Police Service is concerned about Gabriel's wellbeing and is asking anyone with any information regarding her whereabouts to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 204-986-6250.


Homicide – Arrest: C19-63845

Winnipeg Police Homicide detectives have made an arrest in the murder of Lise Danais. She was killed in her residence on March 26, 2019.

On July 30, 2019, investigators arrested a youth who has been charged with First Degree Murder. The accused has been detained in custody.

The Winnipeg Police Service is constrained by the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and is prohibited from identifying the accused. We remind the media and the public in general that they are bound by the same provisions.

As previously released:

On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at approximately 10:45 a.m., Winnipeg Police East District General Patrol officers attended to a residence located in the first 100 block of Rockcliffe Rd. in response to a 911 call.

Responding officers located an adult female victim suffering from severe injuries. She was conveyed to hospital in critical condition but has since succumbed to her injuries.

The victim has been identified as Lise DANAIS, a 51-year-old female of Winnipeg.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at (204)786-TIPS (8477).


Commercial Robberies – Arrest: C19-177488

On July 30, 2019, at approximately 4:35 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a commercial robbery at a convenience store in the 800 block of Ellice Avenue. A male armed with a knife had stolen undisclosed merchandise and fled on foot.

Soon after, a suspect was located in the 600 block of Banning Street where he was placed under arrest, and the stolen merchandise was recovered.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation and have identified the suspect as being responsible for an additional eight commercial robberies which occurred earlier month:

- On July 9, 2019, at approximately 11:10 p.m., a convenience store in the 100 block of Salter Street was robbed by a male armed with a knife.

- On July 15, 2019, at approximately 6:15 a.m., a convenience store in the 600 block of McPhillips Street was robbed by a male armed with a knife.

- On July 15, 2019, at approximately 12:20 p.m., a convenience store in the 1500 block of Arlington Street was robbed by a male armed with a firearm.

- On July 15, 2019, at approximately 10:05 p.m., a hotel in the 300 block of Kennedy Street was robbed by a male.

- On July 17, 2019, at approximately 1:50 a.m., a convenience store in the 700 block of Mountain Avenue was robbed by a male armed with a knife.

- On July 18, 2019, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the same convenience store in the 600 block of McPhillips Street was robbed by a male armed with a knife.

- On July 24, 2019, at approximately 2:40 a.m., a convenience store in the 800 block of Arlington Street was robbed by a male armed with a knife.

- On July 25, 2019, at approximately 2:50 a.m., a convenience store in the 100 block of Keewatin Street was robbed by a male armed with a firearm.

Harvey James McKay, a 33-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Robbery (x7)
- Armed Robbery using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm (x2)
- Pointing a Firearm (x2)
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x2)
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2)
- Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence (x2)
- Possession of a Weapon (x8)
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x8)

He was detained in custody.
