Homicide – Arrest: C19-112946
Homicide investigators have made a second arrest in the murder of Jessie Robert David Catterson, a 36-year-old male of Winnipeg.
On May 21, 2019, at approximately 9:50 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the report of an injured male at a residence in the 500 block of Flora Avenue. Upon arrival, Catterson was located suffering from a stab wound injury and was transported to hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced deceased.
On June 26, 2019, Donald Leslie Parisien, a 36-year-old male of Winnipeg, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder. He was detained in custody.
On August 4, 2019, Matthias Tyler Sexton, a 25-year-old male of Winnipeg, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder & Possession of a Weapon. He was detained in custody.
It is believed that the three were known to each other and that a dispute escalated into a stabbing. The two suspects then fled and the victim collapsed inside a nearby residence at which time 911 was contacted.
Attempt Murder – Arrest: C19-176910
On July 30, 2019, at approximately 1:05 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a robbery at a convenience store in the 1100 block of Kildare Avenue East.
A male suspect had pointed a handgun at an employee’s head and pulled the trigger several times, however the firearm failed to discharge. The suspect then re-inserted the ammunition magazine and racked the firearm, before pointing it at the employee and pulling the trigger again. The firearm did not fire and the suspect left the store with stolen product. Outside the store, the suspect pointed the firearm at two bystanders before fleeing.
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
On August 3, 2019, at approximately 12:55 a.m., Major Crimes Unit investigators located a male at a residence in the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue and placed him under arrest.
Tyrell Jeferd Wood, a 21-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Armed Robbery using a Firearm
- Pointing a Firearm (x3)
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
He was also processed on two outstanding arrest warrants for charges that include:
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
Wood was detained in custody.
