Robbery – Arrest: R19-60033

Detectives from the Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit began investigating two armed robberies believed to be linked that occurred September 6, 2019.

At 12:50 p.m., a male suspect stole various items from a retail store located in the 900 block of Nairn Ave. A security guard confronted the suspect but was threatened with a knife and knocked to the ground by the suspect who fled in a stolen vehicle.

At 5:30 p.m., a male suspect stole various items from a retail store located in the 1500 block of Regent Ave. West. While fleeing the store, the suspect brandished a sawed-off shotgun at a loss prevention officer. The suspect fled in a stolen vehicle.

On September 8, 2019, at 10:15 p.m., Major Crimes investigators located a suspect driving the stolen vehicle in the 1400 block of Fife St. Officers arrested the male and seized $1,475 in cash, 16 grams of a white powder (believed to be cocaine) with an estimated street value of $1350, 2 baggies of a substance (believed to be crystal methamphetamine) with an estimated street value of $5350, and an UZI-style BB-gun which qualified as a firearm.

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado the suspect was located in had been stolen from a residence in the Linden Woods neighbourhood at the beginning of August. The suspect was the subject of a 10-year firearms prohibition, a Canada-wide driving prohibition and two previous arrest warrants.

Larry Albert HOUGE, 38, has been charged with:
- Robbery
- Armed Robbery with a Restricted or Prohibited Firearm
- Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x 2
- Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Unlawfully at Large

Houge was detained in custody.

Weapons – Investigation: C19-211365

On September 8, 2019, at 2:15 p.m.,  Winnipeg Police North District General Patrol officers responded to a Weapons incident at in the 200 block of Church Ave.

Four youths, between the ages of 11 and 16, had been in the rear schoolyard (Sunday -  outside of school hours) of Champlain School when they were confronted by 5 – 7 male suspects. The suspect pulled out BB-guns and shot at the victims. All four of the victims were hit, however, none sustained any significant injuries. The suspects fled on foot.

The victims were not students of the school. A Winnipeg Police Service School Resource Officer (SRO) has been at the school throughout the day to assist staff and students with any questions.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
