Assault with a Weapon – Arrest: C19-246962
On October 19, 2019, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a gunshot that had been heard earlier in the first 100 block of Dubois Place. An injured male had also been seen in the neighbourhood.
As officers arrived in the area, the injured male attended a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound. Officers quickly identified an involved residence and made entry – but no individuals were located inside. Several firearms, including a .22 calibre rifle, were found.
Soon after, a male suspect was located in the area of the hospital and was placed under arrest. Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
The victim and the suspect are known to each other.
Joel Benarde Tencha, a 47-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Pointing a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Discharge a Firearm with Intent
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Aggravated Assault
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon
He was detained in custody.
