Homicide/Assault – Investigation: C19-258310
On November 2, 2019, at 1:30 a.m., numerous Winnipeg Police units responded to a Gun call at a nightclub located in the 200 block Bannatyne Avenue.
Responding officers located two adult males that had been shot. One male sustained a gunshot wound to the lower body and was transported to hospital in stable condition. A second male suffering from gunshot wounds was located deceased.
This investigation is continuing by members of the Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit. A large number of people were inside the club at the time of the incident. Investigators are asking that anyone who may have cell phone video taken during the evening or any relevant information to contact the Homicide Unit at (204) 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
Homicide/Officer-Involved Shooting: C19-245521
On October 18, 2019, at approximately 8:00 a.m., East District General Patrol officers responded to a report of a domestic incident at a residence in the 300 block of Riverton Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult female inside the residence. Officers also encountered an adult male, and a confrontation occurred which resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The male was subsequently transported to hospital.
Members of the Homicide Unit continued with the investigation, and a post-mortem examination has determined the cause of the female’s death to be a homicide. The deceased has been identified as Karen Jane Letniak, a 48-year-old female of Winnipeg.
On November 1, 2019, Homicide investigators charged Cody Don SAUNDERS, 26, with:
- Second Degree Murder
- Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon
He has been detained in custody
The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba has maintained responsibility for the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
Homicide – Public Assistance Requested: C19-253440
Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance regarding the murder of Edwin Adrian Harper and Wayne Patrick Palidwor who were shot and killed during the early morning hours of October 27, 2019. The shooting took place in the rear lane of Ross Avenue near Isabel Street.
Investigators are asking for businesses and residents in the surrounding area to check their surveillance systems for any images during the period of 1:00 a.m to 3:00 a.m. on October 27.
In addition, anyone who was in this area at this time and observed any unusual or suspicious activity is asked to contact investigators at either 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
