2019 Festive Season Checkstop Program – Final Results.

Impaired driving continues to be the #1 criminal cause of death in Canada, yet it is 100% preventable.

Our message is simple - if you're under the influence of alcohol or drugs, DON’T DRIVE.

Final Checkstop Results:

  • Total of 1373 vehicles were stopped
  • 1191 roadside breath test were conducted, resulting in 20 WARNs and 11 FAILs
  • 33 people were charged with Impaired Driving related charges (including one drug impaired driver)
  • 1 Oral fluid Test was positive for THC (Cannabis) charges pending Toxicology results  
  • 5 people were issued administrative sanctions for blowing a FAIL on a roadside breath test (new Immediate Roadside Prohibition).
  • 27 traffic tickets were issued

Firearms – Arrest: C20-6506

On January 9, 2020, at approximately 11:48 p.m., members of the Guns & Gangs Unit were patrolling the 600 block of Redwood Avenue when they encountered a male that was known to them.

While speaking to the male, officers determined the male was armed with a firearm. He was placed under arrest and safely taken into custody after a brief struggle. A loaded sawed-off .410 break-action shotgun was seized from him.

Keith Erlin Chartrand, a 40-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order (x5)
- Possession of a Prohibited Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x5)
- Carrying Concealed Weapon

He was detained in custody.
