Homicide – Update: C20-8144
Previously released on January 13, 2020
On January 12, 2020, at approximately 2:53 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of shots that had been fired in the 100 block of Garry Street.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel located three injured males. All three were taken to hospital in critical condition. One male has since succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased victim has been identified as Yassin Abdu Ahmed, 20.
Update:
As a result of their investigation, Homicide Unit investigators obtained a warrant for the arrest of an adult male in relation to this incident.
On January 28, 2020, investigators located and arrested Alrick Denon BANTON, a 28-year-old male of Winnipeg. At the time of his arrest, BANTON was in possession of a firearm magazine containing several rounds of ammunition. He has been charged with:
- Second Degree Murder
- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Discharge Restricted Firearm with Intent X2
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
He has been detained in custody
Motor Vehicle Collision — Public Assistance Required: C20-20308
On January 27, 2020, at approximately 8:40 p.m., emergency services personnel responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 1800 block of Logan Avenue.
A 43-year-old female was transported to hospital in unstable condition. She has since been upgraded to stable condition.
Following the collision, two vehicles stopped at the scene. Occupants of both vehicles spoke to Paramedics but left before being identified. The first vehicle is described as a white panel van, and the second vehicle is described as a small dark-coloured car.
Officers are looking to identify and speak with the occupants of both vehicles.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact the Traffic Division at (204)986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at (204)786-TIPS (8477).
