Theft/Fraud Investigation — Arrests: C20-24518
On January 29,2020, a purse was stolen from a shopping cart inside a grocery store in the 800 block of Dakota Street. A credit card from the purse was later used to purchase food at a restaurant in the 1400 block of Ellice Avenue. A cheque personal cheque from the purse was later fraudulently deposited at a bank in the 600 block of Notre Dame Avenue.
On February 1, 2020, a purse was stolen from a shopping cart in the 1400 block of Regent Avenue West. A credit card from the purse was later used in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue.
Through the investigation, Major Crimes Unit investigators identified a suspect. On February 12, 2020, a 44-year-old male of Winnipeg, was arrested for:
- Theft Under $5000
- Use of Credit Card X2
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
He was later released from custody with conditions.
On the same date, a 64-year-old male of Winnipeg was arrested for Fraud Under $5000, Forgery, and Use of Forged Document. He was released on an appearance notice.
