Assault with a Weapon – Investigation/Arrests: C20-42097
On February 23, 2020, at approximately 5:06 p.m., an off-duty Winnipeg Police Service officer witnessed a theft at a Liquor Mart in the 800 block of Dakota Street. A number of suspects had stolen a large quantity of alcohol and fled.
The officer contacted the WPS Communications Centre and requested assistance. He then followed the suspects to the area of Sterling Avenue and St. Anne’s Road, at which time he was assaulted, but was able to apprehend a male suspect. The other suspects fled and the officer was transported to hospital where he was treated and later released for injuries he sustained during the assault.
At approximately 7:45 p.m., a second male suspect was located in the area of William Avenue and Harriet Street where he was taken into custody.
Both males have been charged and detained.

Mischief to Property – Arrests: C20-41783
On February 23, 2020, at approximately 8:44 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a high-rise building in the first 100 block of Garry Street for a report of damage to an elevated viewing area.
Upon arrival, officers took four suspects into custody who had been stuck in an elevator. It is believed that the four had attended the building, gained access to the viewing area and caused about $30,000 in damages (preliminary estimate).
A 14-year-old female and two 17-year-old males, all of Winnipeg, have been arrested for:
- Break Enter & Commit – Place
- Mischief Over $5,000
They were released on Undertakings.
A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
- Break Enter & Commit – Place
- Mischief Over $5,000
He was detained in custody.
