Homicide – Investigation: C20-54472

On March 10, 2020, at approximately 12:05 a.m., Winnipeg Police General Patrol officers responded to a report of an injured male at a residence in the 500 block of Elgin Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious adult male with significant injuries and began performing CPR on the male.

The victim was conveyed to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).


Suspicious Death – Investigation: C20-54259

On March 9, 2020, at approximately 6:10 p.m., Winnipeg Police were alerted to a deceased male in a field in the 400 block of McPhillips Street.

Officers located the adult male who displayed no signs of life. The investigation is continuing, and an autopsy is pending.

This investigation is continuing. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6313 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).


Officer-Involved Shooting: C20-54551

On March 10, 2020, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Winnipeg Police General Patrol Units responded to multiple 911 calls reporting Family Trouble at a residence located in the 100 block of Kowalsky Crescent.

Responding officers located a 27-year-old male resident of the home who was actively assaulting two other adult residents with an edged weapon. The 27-year-old male was shot by police.

Three people were taken to hospital by ambulance; one patient in critical condition, one in unstable condition and one in stable condition. 

The 27-year-old has succumbed to his injuries.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation.


Assault Peace Officer – Arrest: C20-54536

On March 10, 2020, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a Winnipeg Police General Patrol officer was leaving HQ after completing her shift. As she was exiting the North West vestibule, she encountered a male who was interfering with a delivery person, also in the lobby.

The off-duty officer followed the suspect male outside the building, at which time two, on-duty Winnipeg Police Cadets joined her. The suspect, without warning, turned and attacked the off-duty officer resulting in a struggle. The officer sustained a serious injury and was transported to hospital in stable condition.

The two cadets, assisted by a uniformed officer and an off-duty officer, were able to subdue and arrest the suspect.

Bertram Charles WILLCOCKS, 35, was charged with Assault Police Officer. He was detained in custody.
