Community Notification

The Winnipeg Police Service today provides information regarding Steven Gordon Peter MARCOTTE, 57 years of age, a convicted sex offender considered high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner against male children, more specifically, teenage boys.

MARCOTTE will be released from Headingley Correctional Centre, Manitoba on March 30, 2020 after serving a sentence regarding a conviction for sexual interference. MARCOTTE is expected to take up residence in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Upon release, MARCOTTE will be subject to 3 years of supervised probation as well as a lifetime Order of Prohibition, which prohibits his attendance at a public park or public swimming area where persons under 16 years of age are present or can reasonably be expected to be present, or a day care centre, school ground, playground or community centre. He is also prohibited from having any contact whatsoever with any person under 16 years of age, unless under the supervision of a person deemed appropriate by the court.

MARCOTTE is an untreated sexual offender considered high risk to re-offend in a  sexual manner.  Male children, more specifically, teenage boys are at risk.

Background information:

Steven Gordon Peter MARCOTTE is a 57-year-old male with a criminal record including forcible confinement, buggery, sexual interference, uttering threats, fail to comply with conditions of an undertaking and probation order, indecent act, trespass at night and assault peace officer.

In 1987, MARCOTTE was convicted of forcible confinement and buggery involving a 13 year old male child acquaintance. MARCOTTE put the victim in a headlock, pulled him to a location, pushed him to the ground, punched and threatened him, then sexually assaulted the victim. He received a sentence of five years on each charge concurrent, and a five year weapons prohibition.

In 2006, MARCOTTE was convicted of indecent act for riding his bicycle while naked, in Vancouver, and was placed on two years probation.

On July 9, 2015, MARCOTTE gave alcohol to a 15-year-old male child acquaintance, and sexually interfered with the male in a public park. MARCOTTE had also been in contact with a 16 year old male in breach of a condition of an undertaking that  prohibited such contact, respecting an incident that occurred in June 2015. MARCOTTE was arrested on July 9, 2015, remained in custody, was convicted of both offences and received a total sentence of 45 months, (comprised of 691 days in addition to pre-trial custody credit of 678 days). MARCOTTE was also made subject to a ten year weapons prohibition, and a lifetime Order of Prohibition, that prohibits him from attending a public park or public swimming area where persons under the age of 16 years are present or can reasonably be expected to be present, or a daycare centre, schoolground, playground or community centre, and having any contact whatsoever with a person under the age of 16 years, unless it is done so under the supervision of a person deemed appropriate by the court.

To gain access to potential victims, MARCOTTE has attended places where male children congregate, purchasing food and other items for them, to befriend them, and ultimately offend.

MARCOTTE is an untreated sex offender considered high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner against male children, particularly teenage boys.

Marcotte will be released on March 30, 2020, and is expected to take up residence in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Community Notification

The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit (MIHRSOU) is a joint forces unit of the Winnipeg Police Service and the RCMP. MIHRSOU today provides information regarding Christopher ASSINIBOINE, 37 years of age, a convicted sex offender considered high risk to re-offend in a sexual/violent manner against all females, both children and adults.

ASSINIBOINE was released from Stony Mountain Penitentiary, Manitoba on March 31, 2020, after a 90 day suspension for breaching his ten year long term supervision order, which relates to ASSINIBOINE’S conviction for sexual assault and utter threats, involving an 18 year old female stranger. He was convicted of those offences on May 4, 2015, and received a total sentence of 7.5 years (includes pre-trial custody credit of 3 years and 3 months). He was also deemed a long term offender and, upon release is subject to a 10 year long term supervision order. ASSINIBOINE is also subject to a lifetime weapons prohibition.

ASSINIBOINE is expected to reside in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

ASSINIBOINE has a history of violent sexual offending. He is an untreated sex offender and is considered high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner. All females, children and adults are at risk.

Background information:

Christopher ASSINIBOINE is a 37-year-old male with a lengthy criminal record including sexual assault, robbery, assault with a weapon, utter threats, assault and breach of recognizance and prohibition orders.

ASSINIBOINE was released on March 31, 2020 after a 90-day temporary suspension of his ten-year long term supervision order which is part of the sentence he received upon conviction for sexually assaulting and threatening an 18-year-old female stranger. On May 4, 2015, he received a sentence of 7.5 years (includes 3 year and 3 months pre-trial custody credit) and a ten year long term supervision order, as he was deemed a long term offender.

ASSINIBOINE was convicted in September 2009 for sexual assaulting a 14-year-old female stranger. He received a 3 year prison sentence (includes 6 month pre-trial custody credit), followed by a 10 year weapons prohibition order and prohibition order regarding children.

ASSINIBOINE committed both sexual assault offences while supplying drugs and alcohol to lure the vulnerable female victims from a public place in order to commit the offences.

Upon release, ASSINIBOINE will be subject to the long term supervision order which includes conditions such as:
• Not to have any contact or communication by any means, with a person under 18 years, unless done so under the supervision of a person whom the court considers appropriate
• Reside at location approved by the Correctional Service of Canada
• Not to consume, purchase or possess any drugs other than prescribed medication taken as prescribed
• Not to consumer, purchase or possess alcohol

ASSINIBOINE is an untreated sex offender. He is considered high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner against females, both children and adults.

ASSINIBOINE is expected to take up residence in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Missing Person – Lailani CURRIE: C20-68069 - LOCATED

Update: Lailani Currie has been safely located.

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing 11-year-old female, Lailani Currie. Currie was last seen in the Unicity area of Winnipeg in the evening of March 27, 2020.

Currie is described as Metis, 5'4", slim build, with blonde shoulder length hair. Currie was last seen wearing a black jacket, grey/black sweatshirt and sweatpants, black shoes and carrying a black shopping bag.

The Winnipeg Police Service is concerned about Currie's well-being and is asking anyone with any information regarding her whereabouts to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 204-986-6250.
