Homicide – Arrest: C20-81383

As previously released:

On April 15, 2020, at 1:40 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of an injured male near the intersection of Isabel Street and Ross Avenue. Officers determined that the male was suffering from a gunshot wound. He was conveyed to hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries.

The victim was first located in the rear lane between Ross Avenue and Elgin Avenue east of Isabel Street and was identified as Brian James Brisson, a 57-year-old male.

Members of the Homicide Unit continued with the investigation.

It is believed that Brisson had been feeding stray cats in the area when he was shot.

In addition, it was discovered that just prior to the homicide, a 21-year-old male had been cleaning debris in the rear lane between William Avenue and Elgin Avenue east of Isabel Street when he was shot at. The gunfire missed, and the male fled to safety.

On April 27, 2020, a male suspect was placed under arrest at a residence in the Centennial neighbourhood.

Darian John Thomas, a 20-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Second Degree Murder
- Attempt to Commit Murder Using a Firearm
- Discharge a Firearm with Intent
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

He was detained in custody.

Investigators believe that both victims were shot at without provocation and had been unknown to the suspect.
