Sexual Assault - Public Assistance: C20-192230

On August 14, 2020, at approximately 11:55 a.m. Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a serious sexual assault that occurred in the area of Logan Avenue and Vine Street.

At approximately 3:00 a.m, a 26-year-old female was walking in the area when she was approached by three males and seriously sexually assaulted. The victim was conveyed to hospital where she was treated and released.

The suspects are described as;

Male 1: Approximately 30 years of age, Indigenous, 5’ 6”- 5’7” in height, medium-heavy build, wearing a black hoodie, baseball cap possibly Raptors colours, baggy jean shorts and black shoes.

Male 2: Indigenous, younger-looking, slim build, wearing a blue surgical mask, black hoodie, black sweatpants, carrying a crossbody bag, and black shoes.

Male 3: Approximately 30-40 years of age, has a tattoo under his left eye, wearing a hat, black zip-up sweater with words on the back, black pants, and black shoes.

All three males fled eastbound in the south lane of Gallagher east of the railway tracks.

Investigators of the Sex Crimes Unit are seeking assistance from anyone who may have video surveillance in the area or may have been in the vicinity and witnessed anything suspicious between the hours of 2:30 a.m and 4:00 a.m.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C20-191705

On August 13, 2020, at 6:44 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a beer vendor in the 700 block of Maryland Street for a report of an assault. Two males had been seen assaulting a customer.
Soon after, officers located an injured male at the Health Sciences Centre. The male had been brought to the hospital and was admitted in critical condition.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. It is believed that the two males had attended the vendor and stabbed the victim several times for unknown reasons. The victim did not know his attackers before the incident.

Two suspects were identified, and during the evening of August 14, 2020, both were arrested at different residences in the Lord Selkirk Park and West Broadway areas. At the time of his arrest, one suspect was found to be in possession of a knife.

A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Weapon (x2)
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition (x2)
- Fail to Comply with Sentence (x8)

A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x2)

Both were detained in custody.
