On July 4, 2020, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of an assault that had occurred on the roadway at Broadway and Carlton Street. Two adults, a male and a female, were involved in a political demonstration that was taking place at the Manitoba Legislature. While participating in the protest, they became involved in a confrontation with the occupants of a vehicle attempting to drive in the area. During the confrontation, both victims were struck with hockey sticks by the vehicle occupants. Neither victim required medical attention.
An investigation by members of the Winnipeg Police Major Crimes Unit led to two suspects being identified.
Two females, 24 and 29, were charged with Assault with a Weapon x 2. They were released on Appearance Notices.
On August 23, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police General Patrol officers responded to a report of a male armed with a 2-foot machete attempting to climb a statue outside a restaurant located in the 800 block of St. James Avenue. Responding officers confronted the male, who discharged bear spray at both officers and fled through the parking lot. Police caught up the suspect after a short foot chase where the male again discharged bear spray at the officers. Police deployed conducted energy weapon (Taser) and arrested the male.

- Utter Threats x 2
- Possess Prohibited/Restricted Weapon
- Possess Weapon x 2
- Fail to Comply with Court Conditions x 2
