Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C20-186102

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation, and with the assistance of the public, two suspects were identified.

On August 28, 2020, a 17-year-old-male and an 18-year-old-female were arrested and will be facing the following charges;

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Robbery

 

As previously released on August 27, 2020:

The Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the serious assault of a 76-year-old female on August 7, 2020, in the 200 block of Pacific Avenue. Investigators are seeking information about the two persons of interest pictured (a male and a female) who were seen in the area at the time of the assault.

As previously released on August 12, 2020:

On August 7, 2020, at approximately 7:40 a.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of an assault that occurred in the 200 block of Pacific Avenue.

Responding officers located a 76-year-old female lying on the ground suffering serious injuries from an assault. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition where she remains. She has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Investigators determined that the victim was assaulted by two suspects while walking in the area. The suspects returned a short time and assaulted the victim a second time while she was still on the ground injured from the first assault. She was left suffering on the ground for approximately 2.5 hours before someone called for assistance.

Investigators believe there may be witnesses that could assist in locating the persons responsible for this assault. Anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed this incident between the hours of 5:10 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. is requested to contact investigators.

Homicide – Arrest: C20-183505

Winnipeg Police Homicide investigators have made an arrest in the murder Owen Russell Smith who was shot on August 4, 2020, in the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue.

On August 28, detectives arrested Albert Sam CAMPEAU, 38, of Winnipeg. He was charged with Second Degree Murder and detained in custody.

As previously released:

On August 4, 2020, at 8:10 a.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a male shot in the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue. Responding officers located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced deceased.

Update:

The victim has now been identified as Owen Russell Smith, 29.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Investigators believe that additional witnesses were in the area at the time but have not yet been interviewed. Homicide – Investigation: C20-202793

The Winnipeg Police Service issued a media release on August 27 regarding an aggravated assault that occurred the previous evening: on August 26, 2020, at 8:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 800 block of Aberdeen Avenue for a report of shots that had just been fired in the area.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured adult male that had been shot. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition, however, his condition deteriorated to grave. 

On August 28, the victim succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as Mohammed Yonis ALI, 21, from Toronto.
