January 11, 2021 Media Release
On January 9, 2021, at 1:13 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 200 block of Jamison Avenue at the request of a third-party caller to check the wellbeing of an adult female.
Upon police arrival, the female exited the residence, and it was determined that she had been assaulted by an adult male who remained inside the suite. The male was uncooperative with officers, and it was believed he was armed with knives and wearing body armour. He also refused to exit.
With the Tactical Support Team and Crisis Negotiation Unit's assistance, tactical communication was provided to de-escalate the situation. At approximately 7:05 p.m., the male was taken into custody, and the incident was safely resolved.
A 32-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with assault-related offences against the adult female. He is not being identified to protect the identity of the victim.
On January 10, 2021, at approx. 6:12 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 500 block of Stradbrook Avenue for a third-party report that a male (known to the complainant) had broken into an adult female's residence. There were concerns that the male could be armed with firearms.
Upon police arrival, it was determined that the male was still inside the residence; however, attempts to contact or communicate with the male were unsuccessful.
With the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, entry was made into the residence. At approximately 7:23 p.m., the male was located inside the residence and taken into custody. The incident was safely resolved, and no firearms were located.
A 31-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing charges of Break & Enter with Intent - Dwelling House. He is not being identified to protect the identity of the victim.
