Robberies – Arrests: C21-71469

The Winnipeg Police Service began investigating a series of violent incidents, the first of which occurred during the early morning of March 29, with the last incident taking place during the afternoon of March 31. Investigators have linked the incidents to two suspects, a 21-year-old female and a 16-year-old male. Both have been charged and remain in custody.

On March 29 at approx 2:00 a.m., the male accused was at a location in the 600 block of Ross Avenue when he approached another male outside using his phone. The accused began violently striking the victim with a piece of metal about the head and upper body. Investigators have not been able to determine a motive for the assault. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.

On March 29 at approximately 9:00 p.m., the male and female accused were at a restaurant in the 3600 block of Portage Avenue. Without explanation, the male suspect attacked a male customer, striking him in the head with what appeared to be the same weapon as the first incident, demanding the victim's cell phone and car keys. The pair fled but were unable to drive the vehicle.

On March 31 at approximately 3:45 p.m., the suspects were at Polo Park Mall, where they approached a male outside a store. The pair began assaulting the victim and demanded his bag. They managed to steal the bag and then made their way towards the exit, where they were confronted by security. They then dropped the bag and left the mall. The victim did not require medical attention.

Once in the parking lot, the male accused smashed the driver's side window of a parked truck.

They then walked east across Empress Street, where they came upon an unidentified elderly male. The accused grabbed the victim's bag and pushed him away. The victim followed the accused, trying to retrieve his property, at which time both accused began assaulting this victim.

A female bystander saw the attack and rushed over to help. The accused then turned on her and demanded her cell phone, striking her and knocking her down. The assault continued while the victim was on the ground. The victim did not require medical attention.

Another bystander witnessed the attacks and pulled over her van to assist. The male accused then went up to her, striking her and demanded money. The victim fled on foot, taking her keys and phone with her. The accused entered the vehicle but were unable to drive it. The accused stole the drivers' purse, which was later recovered. She did not require medical attention.

Responding officers located the suspects as they fled through Omand's Creek, where they were arrested.

They face charges of:
- Robbery x 5
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possess Weapon x 3
- Utter Threats x 2
- Mischief Under $5,000
