On May 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Auxillary Cadet Unit were on foot patrol in the 200 block of Portage Avenue when they observed a female suspect believed to be responsible for an assault on a victim in her 90’s on May 15, 2021.
Central District officers arrived and the suspect was taken into custody.
Amanda Lynn CASTEL, 42, of Winnipeg, was charged with Aggravated Assault and was detained in custody.

On May 15, 2021, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Central District officers responded to Portage Avenue and Vaughn Street for the report of an attempted strongarm robbery.
The victim, an elderly female in her 90’s, was standing at Portage Avenue and Vaughn Street, holding onto her walker. The victim was confronted by an unknown female who attempted to steal her walker, causing her to fall to the concrete, rendering her injured and incapacitated. The suspect was unsuccessful in stealing the walker and subsequently fled on foot.
Bystanders in the area quickly assisted the victim, who was transported by ambulance to the hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.
The Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate this incident. No arrests have been made at this time.
