Assault Police Officer – Arrest: C21-128942

Members of the Major Crimes Unit have charged two males for a series of crimes, including an incident where a pair of Winnipeg Police Service officers were struck by a stolen vehicle.

On June 5, 2021, at approximately 1:10 p.m., a male suspect attended a house in the Booth neighbourhood and asked the resident for some water. While the resident went to get the water, the suspect stole property from inside the house, including keys to a truck. The suspect then stole the resident’s vehicle and fled.

At approximately 2:40 p.m., the suspect, driving the stolen truck, attended a gas station in the 3000 block of Pembina Highway and attempted to pay for merchandise with a financial card that had been inside the vehicle. When the transaction was unsuccessful, the suspect was asked to leave the store but forced his way back inside and attempted to assault the employee. The suspect then stole the merchandise and fled.

At approximately 3:00 p.m., the suspect drove the stolen truck through a wooden fence in the 200 block of Point West Way.

At approximately 4:10 p.m., the suspect, who was now in the company of a second suspect, attended a grocery store in the first 100 block of Bison Drive. The first suspect entered the store and stole a number of items.

A pair of Winnipeg Police Service officers, who had been working Special Duty at the location, attempted to arrest the male; however, he resisted and fled to the truck. The officers gave chase and were struck by the vehicle when the second suspect put the vehicle into reverse and accelerated towards them. Both suspects then fled. One officer was transported to hospital for injuries sustained and later released.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., both suspects attended a business in the 1800 block of Chevrier Boulevard, and the stolen vehicle was driven through several metal gates – causing damage to the property.

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended the area and located two suspects hiding in the area. The stolen truck was also recovered and was found to have sustained extensive damage to the entire vehicle.
