On June 14, 2021, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of Young Street and Balmoral Street. A victim of a gunshot wound was transported to hospital, however, he was pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as Kyle Anthony BRAITHWAITE, 29.
This investigation is continuing by the Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call the Homicide Unit 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
On June 14, 2021, at approximately 3:00 p.m., West District officers responded to the report of a male seen with a firearm in the food court of Cadillac Fairview Polo Park.
The male was seen removing a handgun from a bag, showing it to another individual, and placing it back into his bag. He then exited the mall. Mall security contacted the police and provided a suspect description. Nobody was threatened during this incident.
Police located the suspect at Portage Avenue and Tylehurst Street, where he was safely taken into custody, and a firearm was seized. The gun was subsequently determined to be a CO2-powered BB pistol that closely resembles a Beretta model APX.
A 23-year-old of Winnipeg is facing the charge of Possession of a Weapon; he was released on an Appearance Notice (as mandated per the Criminal Code).
Earlier today, at approximately 8:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service requested the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle that was involved in a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at Logan Avenue and Tecumseh Street.
The victim, an 82-year-old male, was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The vehicle in this matter has since been located, and the Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate.
