As previously released:
Earlier today, at approximately 8:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service requested the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle that was involved in a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at Logan Avenue and Tecumseh Street.
The victim, an 82-year-old male, was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The vehicle in this matter has since been located, and the Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate.
Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call Major Crimes at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
The WPS has received several reports concerning fraudulent jewelry appraisals. The appraisals, at first glance, purport to be from local jewellers and are for expensive jewelry pieces or high-value watches.
The basis of the fraud is that the suspect presents the highly valued watch or jewelry accompanied by a counterfeit appraisal in trade for an item of a lower value (in one instance, a vehicle). The watch or jewelry is subsequently determined to be fake, as is the appraisal.
Anyone involved in a transaction of this nature is cautioned to contact the jeweller/appraiser listed on the document to ensure its authenticity. In some cases, the phone number listed was not that of the actual jeweller, and direct contact with the business is recommended.
