Homicide – Arrest: C21-84567

Update:

On June 22, 2021, investigators in the Homicide Unit attended Milner Ridge Correctional Centre, where they arrested a male on the strength of a warrant for the murder of Hayder HASSAN, which occurred on April 16, 2021. 

Abdullahi Jemal AHMED, 24, of Winnipeg, was charged with Second Degree Murder and Fail to Comply Probation Order x 2, he remained in custody.  

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance during this investigation.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with additional information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).


As previously released (Public Assistance)

The Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate the murder of Hayder Hassan. Hassan was shot and killed Friday afternoon, April 16, while at a cemetery in the 1200 block of McGillivray Boulevard. 

Investigators ask anyone who may have been driving on McGillivray between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. on Friday and have a dash-cam video to contact the WPS Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508.

As previously released (Homicide – Investigation)

On April 16, 2021, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Winnipeg Police units responded to reports of shots fired at a cemetery located in the 1200 block of McGillivray Boulevard. One male was struck by gunfire and transported to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. 

The victim has been identified as Hayder HASSAN, 21, of Winnipeg
