On July 20, 2021, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Winnipeg Police Traffic Division attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Brazier Street and Johnson Avenue.
The driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, refused to stop for police and continued to drive at an extremely slow rate of speed. Assisting General Patrol units entered the area, and the suspect suddenly accelerated to a high rate of speed and drove directly towards one of the units. A service firearm was discharged, striking the suspect vehicle, which subsequently swerved off course and collided with a nearby resident’s garage.
The suspect was not injured and was taken into custody. He was transported to hospital by ambulance for unrelated medical precautions.
A 39-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon x 2
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
- Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
