Fatal Hit & Run – Investigation: C21-182709

On August 6, 2021, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Winnipeg Police General Patrol Units responded to a report of a Motor Vehicle Collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Smith Street.

Investigators determined that a woman was attempting to cross Smith Street at Broadway when she was struck and run over by a 5-ton truck travelling eastbound on Broadway. The truck subsequently turned northbound onto Main Street. It was determined that before the collision, the truck had been travelling northbound on Smith Street and then turned eastbound onto Broadway but cut the curb and struck the pedestrian.

The victim, a woman in her late 80’s, was conveyed to the hospital in critical condition. On August 8, she succumbed to her injuries.

The truck is described as a 5-ton, white moving truck.

Investigators from the Winnipeg Police Traffic Division seek the public’s assistance to identify the truck and the driver. Anyone with information that can assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-7085.

Homicide – Public Assistance: C20-187787

After one year, the Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate the murder of Anthony Evaristo GONZALES, a 30-year-old male of Winnipeg.

On August 9, 2020, at approximately 1:18 a.m., GONZALES was grievously assaulted by a group of unknown individuals outside an establishment in the 1400 block of St. Matthews Avenue. The suspects fled the area, and GONZALES subsequently succumbed to his injuries.  

Investigators in the Homicide Unit believe numerous witnesses were present at the time and have valuable information that will assist in the investigation. The Gonzales family would like the investigation to be resolved to bring peace and closure to their family.
