Homicide – Arrests: C20-202793

WPS Homicide detectives have been investigating the murder of Mohammed Yonis ALI for the past year. Ali was shot on the 800 block of Alfred Avenue and succumbed to his injuries on August 28, 2020. Ali was 21 at the time of his death.

The year-long investigation has lead to the arrest of two suspects. On September 2, 2021, detectives arrested Nootin Kasipigositmikise FONTAINE, 25, of Victoria Beach, MB., and charged him with First Degree Murder. Fontaine remains in custody.

On August 25, 2021, homicide detectives arrested Arturo Andres CARRASCO, 24, of Winnipeg and charged him with First Degree Murder. Carrasco remains in custody.

Carrasco is also facing charges regarding three shooting incidents in Winnipeg not previously released on:

1. On July 20, 2019, at approximately 11:45 p.m., multiple shots were fired into a vehicle parked on the 200 block of Johnson Avenue. Two occupants were in the vehicle, and one was slightly injured. An investigation led to an arrest warrant being issued for Carrasco for Attempt Murder and Discharge Firearm.

2. On September 24, 2019, at approximately 11:50 p.m., two males left a bar in the 700 block of Main Street and were walking in the area of Jarvis Avenue and Maple Street. Two suspects were following them in a vehicle with who they had an earlier confrontation. Gunshots were fired from the vehicle striking a 26-year-old male in the upper body and a residence. The victim was transported to hospital where he was treated and subsequently released. An arrest warrant was issued for Carrasco for Discharge Firearm with Intent.

3. On September 27, 2019, Carrasco got into a heated argument with an adult male, resulting in Carrasco shooting him. The victim was treated in hospital and eventually released. An investigation led to Carrasso being identified as the suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued for Discharge Firearm with Intent.

This investigation is still ongoing by members of the Homicide Unit, and additional arrests may be pending for suspects who assisted Fontaine and Carrasco.
