Shooting – Investigation: C21-232090

On October 4, 2021, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service’s North District officers responded to the report of a male who had been shot in the area of Selkirk Avenue and Parr Street. 

Officers located an adult male outside who had been shot. They administered emergency first-aid until emergency personnel arrived. 

The victim in his forties was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. The investigation led to a scene at McKenzie/Parr. No arrests have been made. 

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information to assist investigators is asked to call the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

 

Motor Vehicle Collision – Fatal: C21-232279

On October 4, 2021, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police General Patrol Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling eastbound on Provencher Boulevard.

The vehicle suddenly fled from the traffic stop at a high rate of speed, eventually losing control where it mounted the concrete median, and struck an oncoming westbound vehicle.

The suspect driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee but was quickly taken into police custody.

An adult female, who was the lone driver of the other vehicle, succumbed to her injuries.

The investigation was taken over by the Homicide Unit.

James Joseph WIELER, 31, of Winnipeg, was charged with the following offences and detained in custody:

- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death
- Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death while Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or Combination of Both
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
- Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited Pursuant to Federal or Provincial Act

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified and will assume responsibility for the investigation in accordance with section 65(4) of the Police Services Act.
