Shooting – Arrests: C21-206178

As previously released:
 
On September 4, 2021, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Winnipeg Police General Patrol officers responded to a report of shots fired at a nightclub located in the 500 block of Portage Avenue. Multiple units arrived on scene and determined that the lounge was the scene of an apparent shooting. An uninvolved police unit was attending to another incident at the Health Sciences Centre when two people arrived via private transport advising they had been injured at the nightclub.
 
A twenty-seven-year-old female was treated for injuries sustained from flying glass. A male in his early 30’s was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was in critical condition. He remains in hospital in critical condition.
 
Update:
 
The Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. It is believed that two groups within the establishment became involved in an altercation, escalating to firearms being discharged and one person being shot. Two suspects were identified and subsequently charged in relation to this shooting.
 
On September 25, 2021, investigators arrested an adult male at a residence in the South Pointe neighbourhood. Upon police arrival, the accused threw a bag out of a second-storey window then jumped out, attempting to flee. The bag was recovered, and he was taken into custody. As a result of this arrest, 28 grams of cocaine (with an estimated street value of $5,000) and $510 Canadian cash were seized.
 
Simalew Tolcha MAMMO, 31, of Winnipeg, was charged with the following offences:
 
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Ammunition Contrary to Order x 3
- Pointing a Firearm
- Discharge Firearm with Intent
- Discharging Firearm in a Reckless Manner

He was detained in custody.
 
On September 26, 2021, a second adult male was arrested at a residence in the Mynarski neighbourhood.
 
Jeffrey Russell SADIUA, 24, of Winnipeg, was charged with the following offences:
 
- Aggravated Assault
- Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Ammunition Contrary to Order
- Pointing a Firearm
- Discharge Firearm with Intent
- Discharging Firearm in a Reckless Manner

He was detained in custody.
