November 18, 2021 Media Release
On November 17, 2021, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Central District Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of Maryland Street. While police established the driver’s identity and learned he was a prohibited driver, he reached for an axe concealed under the seat. The accused was removed from the vehicle, at which time he resisted being handcuffed and fought with the officers. Once secured in handcuffs, he spit on an officer. Both officers sustained injuries but did not require medical treatment.
Benjamin WALL, 31, of Winnipeg, was charged with:
- Assault Police Officer x 2
- Resist Police Officer
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Public Mischief
- Driving while Prohibited (Warrant)
He was detained in custody.
On November 17, 2021, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a male that had been shot and was lying in the roadway on Mountain Avenue near Salter Street. A transit bus stopped near the victim before police arrival.
Responding officers were able to administer emergency first aid before the arrival of ambulance personnel. The adult male was transported to hospital in unstable condition but later upgraded to stable.
Mountain Avenue was shut to traffic for several hours while the investigation continued.

On November 18, 2021, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Winnipeg Police responded to an apartment block on the 400 block of Edmonton Street for a report of a male that had been stabbed. A male in his 40’s was conveyed to the hospital in unstable condition. His condition has since been upgraded to stable.
No arrests have been made.
On November 18, 2021, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Emergency Services Personnel responded to a report of an unresponsive adult male on the ground in the 400 block of River Avenue. First responders determined the male was deceased.
The initial assessment has determined that the death is suspicious in nature and the Homicide Unit will be taking over the investigation.
