December 8, 2021 Media Release
On December 6, 2021, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Central District Foot Patrol officers were walking near the northeast corner of Portage Avenue and Main Street when they encountered a male in an external stairwell. The male, showing signs of recent drug use, was unconscious, unresponsive, and not breathing. Temperatures in the city were -18o Celius.
The two officers administered a dose of naloxone, which was not effective. A second dose was administered, followed by CPR. The male was revived and transported to a hospital by ambulance in stable condition.
The Winnipeg Police Service reminds property owners and managers to be mindful and vigilant of secluded areas of their properties that might attract people trying to keep warm as temperatures fall.
On December 7, 2021, at approximately 1:45 a.m., West District General Patrol officers attended a residence on Sackville Street to check the wellbeing of occupants after several 911 calls were received. Responding officers located an unconscious adult female. Officers were able to revive the woman after administering three doses of naloxone. She was transported to hospital in stable condition by ambulance.
On December 8, 2021, at approximately 3:10 a.m., AIR1 was in operation over the West End neighbourhood when they observed a structure fire in the 800 block of Clifton Street. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was requested when the crew observed several explosions coming from the garage at the rear of a single-family residence.
Several nearby homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure. No injuries were reported. The explosions were determined to be related to a vehicle fire in the garage.
