Suspicious Vehicle Fire – Investigation: C21-290022

The Major Crimes Unit is investigating a suspicious fire involving a vehicle. 

On December 11, 2021, just before noon, WFPS attended to a burned-out vehicle found in a remote area near Rue des Trappistes and Waverley Street (Southwest of St. Norbert). 

The vehicle appears to be a white Ford Escape.

Robbery with a Weapon – Public Assistance: C21-287882

Officers from the Winnipeg Police Service East District are looking for a suspect in three related robbery/assault investigations: Derek James MCDONALD, 28, of Winnipeg.

On December 10, 2021, police received a report of two adults threatened with bear spray. The victims (an adult driver and an elderly passenger) reported giving a ride to an acquaintance. Once they reached his destination in the 600 block of St. Anne’s Road, he threatened to rob them while armed with bear spray. They had nothing to turn over, and the suspect left the vehicle. 

Shortly after, police received another report about an additional robbery and assault with bear spray in the 600 block of St. Anne’s Road. 

A small group of people, including the suspect from the first report, were at a residence. An argument occurred, and one of the individuals was threatened with bear spray and robbed of their money. The victim ran outside, seeking safety in a waiting vehicle.  The suspect followed the victim out and discharged bear spray into the vehicle, striking the other adult occupant. A toddler was seated in the vehicle but was not hit. He then fled the area on foot. 

MCDONALD is wanted on a Canada-Wide Warrant for being Unlawfully at Large and has warrants for robberies with a weapon.

Stolen Vehicle – Investigation: C21-291250

On December 14, 2021, at approximately 7:05 a.m., Winnipeg Police received a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler, had been stolen while parked in the 400 block of College Avenue. Later that day, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the owner spotted his vehicle in the back lane of the 500 block of Redwood Avenue.

When the owner confronted the occupants in the stolen vehicle, one of the suspects pointed a gun at him. No shots were fired, and the victim was not injured.

On December 15, at approximately 7:55 a.m., the vehicle was located, parked in the 500 block of Aberdeen Avenue.

Assault with Weapon – Investigation: C21-291367

On December 15, 2021, at approximately 2:45 a.m., emergency services personnel responded to a report of an injured male at a multi-unit residence in the 500 block of Spence Street. The victim, a male in his 30’s, was transported to hospital in unstable condition, suffering from serious injuries consistent with being stabbed. His condition has since been upgraded to stable. No arrests have been made at this time.

Gun – Investigation: C21-291250

On December 14, 2021, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to an incident in the first 100 block of Marbury Road. Initial information was that a male was seen armed with a gun outside the apartment block and that he then fired the weapon at the building. The suspect then fired a shot at a vehicle parked in the area. There was no report of injuries.

Commercial Robbery – Investigation: C21-291199

On December 14, 2021, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred at a gas bar located in the 500 block of Panet Road. Two suspects entered the kiosk with firearms and demanded money and cigarettes. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported. Suspect descriptions are not available at this time.
