Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C22-10067

On January 14, 2022, at 10:56 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the K9 Unit and AIR1, responded to the area of Henry Avenue and Tecumseh Street for a report of a female who had been found with severe injuries as a result of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers began to provide emergency medical care to the victim—who was identified as a 16-year-old female. She was subsequently transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

It was determined that the female had been assaulted outside of a residence in the West Alexander neighbourhood.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation and identified a female suspect.

On January 24, 2022, detectives placed the suspect under arrest. It is believed that the victim and suspect were known as acquaintances, and they had been together at the residence before the assault.

A 15-year-old female of Winnipeg has been charged with:

- Aggravated Assault
- Assault
- Possession of a Weapon

She was detained.

Arson – Arrest: C22-17197

On January 24, 2022, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a male attended a parking lot in the 200 block of King Street. He entered the box of a parked truck, stole a jerrycan of gasoline, and proceeded to pour the gas over the vehicle's exterior.

He then attended a nearby business where he poured gas onto the building and a garbage dumpster on the loading dock. The male returned to the truck and broke into it before setting fire to the garbage dumpster.

A resident who lives nearby witnessed the incident and contacted police. A K9 Unit attended, and with the assistance of AIR1, a male suspect was taken into custody in the 500 block of Main Street.

Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service attended and extinguished the fire in the dumpster.

Central District General Patrol officers continued with the investigation.

Darren William Alexander Perchak, a 35-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Arson Causing Damage to Property
- Theft Under $5,000
- Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment

He was detained.

Arson – Arrest: C21-125424

As previously released by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service:

On June 2, 2021, at 8:34 a.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 500 block of Boyd Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, smoke was coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 9:18 a.m.

Crews searched the home and no people were located. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Update:

The fire was deemed suspicious, and the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.

On January 24, 2022, at 11:46 a.m., a female suspect was placed under arrest at a residence in the William Whyte neighbourhood.

Investigators believe that the suspect had intentionally set fire to a multifamily residence where her adult male partner was residing, causing approximately $60,000 in damage. Two residents of the building were inside at the time of the fire.

Deidre Carmel Bittern, a 34-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Arson with Disregard for Human Life

She was detained.

Aggravated Assault – Arrests: C22-17225

On January 24, 2022, at 11:33 p.m., General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, responded to a hotel in the 200 block of Portage Avenue for a report of a male found with severe injuries as a result of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers began to provide emergency medical care to the victim—who was identified as a male in his 20's. He was subsequently transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition, where he remains.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit are continuing with the investigation.
