On January 28, 2022, at approximately 11:10 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of two males fighting outside the 200 block of Princess Street.
When police arrived there was an assault in progress involving a weapon. Police encountered a non-compliant suspect at which time an officer discharged their firearm striking this suspect.
Both the suspect in his twenties, and victim of the assault (in his forties), were transported to hospital in unstable condition. The suspect has been upgraded to stable but guarded condition, and the victim has been upgraded to stable condition
The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba was notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
