Valour Community Centre – Orioles Site Frontage Redevelopment

The Valour Community Centre – Orioles Site is one of the oldest community club locations in Winnipeg, first opening its doors in the West End in 1948. The building hosts a variety of sport and fitness activities including the long-running Orioles Boxing Club. The facility also acts as an important hub for community programs supporting nearby students, families and seniors.

In recent years, the community club has undergone renovations to the playground, multi-purpose room, kitchen, common area and washrooms. In the fall of 2016, the gymnasium was revamped to further increase programming.

Under the Parks and Recreation Enhancement Program, the club is currently redeveloping a paved area on the south side of the property near Burnell Street and St. Matthews Avenue. With the intent of making the site more inviting, we are developing a master plan for the front entrance of the community centre and investigating in a number of new features and facilities. The community garden in that same location will be retained and possibly reoriented. Construction is expected to start in the fall of 2017.

We are asking for community input on a site layout and amenity options

We want to hear from you!

Thank you to all who attended an open house on March 21st at the site. Approximately 30 people attended the event and 20 exit surveys were collected.

49 responses were collected from a survey available online from March 22rd to April 4th.

A summary analysis of the public engagement results and explanation of how they were worked into the final project design are now available through the public engagement report.

Construction of this project is expected to begin in the September 2017.
