For interior occupied residential inspections, only an Alternate Video Inspection is permitted, as inspectors are not entering dwellings at this time. All evening and Saturday time slots are suspended until further notice.

The department is continuing to offer commercial and new build residential (unoccupied) inspections.

In addition, the Zoning & Permits Branch, located at 31-30 Fort St., is not accepting walk-in customers. Permit applications are being processed; however, applications must be submitted digitally.

Commercial and Housing Inspections

Inspections teams work to protect the lives, safety and quality of life of all citizens throughout Winnipeg through a variety of inspection processes. Inspections are accomplished through the implementation, regulation and enforcement of Building, Plumbing and Electrical Codes/Standards, City of Winnipeg Building By-laws, City of Winnipeg Zoning By-laws, and City of Winnipeg Development Agreements. The various types of inspections available are listed below.
