Organic Lawn Care Home

 Early Spring

This is the time to test your soil (for alkalinity/acidity, or any NPK deficiencies) if you are going to do so. It is the ONLY time to apply Corn Gluten Meal as a pre-emergent herbicide.

Do your spring raking now, and any aerating and topdressing (unless you choose to do so in the early fall instead). Also, break up any clumps of snow in areas that take longer to melt - this will discourage snow mold from forming.

Late Spring

Time to do any patch seeding and overseeding that needs to be done in your yard. Making sure not to overseed at the same time as applying Corn Gluten Meal.

There is not too much to do in the summer months, other than to mow and water as necessary, being sure to mow high (and with sharp blades) and water deep (in the morning hours) to promote healthy grass plants.

De-thatch as necessary to help soil ventilation and discourage pests. Rake up all the heavy leaf cover. Aerate and topdress (unless you have already done so in the spring - once a year is enough) then reapply ¼ inch of mulched leaves to the surface of your lawn.
