Taxi Licence Lottery
July 2018 Taxi Licence Lottery
The City of Winnipeg has opened its next round of taxi lottery applications, which will be open exclusively to applicants who intend to operate an accessible vehicle-for-hire.
Applications are now being accepted by the Winnipeg Parking Authority until 4:30 p.m. July 20, 2018. There are up to 60 available licenses that will be awarded at a lottery event on July 25 at the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre.
The City has decided to award accessible licenses only for this taxi license lottery in order to increase the availability of accessible vehicles-for-hire in Winnipeg.
Once the first 60 applicants have been drawn and awarded the accessible taxi licences, the other lottery applicants will be drawn to form a waitlist to be used should any of the first 60 applicants not fulfill the requirements by September 7, 2018.
Applications must be submitted in-person to the Winnipeg Parking Authority, located at 495 Portage Avenue.
Those who have entered the taxi licence lottery are welcome to attend the draw event. Attendance is not required to be selected in the lottery. The list of all applicants will be posted on the City’s website after the lottery process has concluded. The Winnipeg Parking Authority will contact successful applicants and provide them with the information necessary to complete the licensing process.
The lottery event details are as follows:
Date: Wednesday, July 25, 2018
Time: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Location: Fort Rouge Leisure Centre, 625 Osborne Street
February 2018 Taxi Licence Lottery
The deadline for applications was February 16, 2018 at 5 p.m. Central Time. Late applications were not accepted into the lottery. On February 23, MNP LLP conducted the February 2018 Taxi License Lottery on behalf of the City of Winnipeg. The first 60 randomly drawn lottery applicants will be given the opportunity to apply for a taxi license. All other lottery applicants were drawn to form a waiting list that will be used, should any of the first 60 applicants not fulfill the requirements for a taxi license within 60 days (by April 30, 2018).
The first 100 names were randomly drawn at the event, and all other names were randomly selected electronically afterwards. The Winnipeg Parking Authority has contacted successful applicants and provided them with the information necessary to complete the licensing process.
The City of Winnipeg has now fulfilled all 60 licences from the March 1, 2018 issuance and no further licences will be issued at this time. Another taxi licence lottery draw will be held with more details to be communicated soon.
