In 2022, the City of Winnipeg launched a Compost Support Program to issue annual support payments of up $65,000 in cash and in-kind advertising credits to qualified residential food waste collection service providers.

Eligibility

Applicants must demonstrate that they transport food waste collected to a licensed compost facility and deliver on one of the following:

  • Provide a subsidy for low-income residents who wish to participate in compost collection but are financially unable to
  • Assist in developing new programs for residents whose dwellings do not currently qualify for compost programs (e.g. multi-family)
  • Other measures to offset costs of their program for the benefit of Winnipeg residents

The following service providers are not eligible to apply for the Compost Support Program:

  • Service providers that do not provide food waste collection service to residential properties (single-family dwellings and/or multi-family dwellings) as outlined in the City of Winnipeg Solid Waste By-Law.
  • Service providers that do not accept expanded food waste as part of their program or a similar suite of acceptable items to the City of Winnipeg’s Residential Food Waste Collection Pilot Project.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online by March 22, 2024.

The following items must be submitted with each application:

  • Prior fiscal year’s financial statements
  • Annual report
  • Annual general meeting minutes
