After 2 years of running virtually, the Foodfare Winnipeg Police Service Half Marathon, 2-Person Relay and 5K run is back with a live race featuring more than 1,500 participants.

Winnipeggers are encouraged to come out and cheer on a sold-out field of runners on Sunday, May 1st!

Rather than a mass start, runners have been broken into five 10-minute starting waves that begin at 7:30 a.m. inside the Wellington Crescent gate in Assiniboine Park. Participants can start anytime during that 10-minute window regardless of the event they are running in. An additional start window from 8:20 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. is also available so any remaining runners can begin their event. The course will remain open until 1:00 p.m.

Whether they’re running to beat their time, to honour a loved one or raise money for cancer research; our runners are motivated by their own reasons. This is a 3rd party fundraising event in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. We are on track to surpass $2.4 million raised in support of cancer research and supports for Manitoba cancer patients.

All monies raised from this year’s event will be going to the Canadian Cancer Society in support of brain cancer research. The money will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, by Brain Canada through the Canada Brain Research Fund, a public-private partnership established by the Government of Canada.

Brain cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths among youth and young adults. The overall survival rate for all cancers is 64%, while the relative survival rate of all brain cancers is 21%. Brain cancer represents some of the most aggressive forms of cancer, making it difficult to destroy.

Weather permitting, there will be a fly-past of a Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m.
