In March, 2025, the Winnipeg Police Service’s North District Community Support Unit entered into an investigation regarding a suspect involved in the illicit drug trade in the city’s North End and believed to be in possession of a firearm.

On March 21, with assistance from the West District Community Support Unit, the Guns & Gangs Unit, the Tactical Support Team, the Drone Unit, and North District General Patrol, officers attended an involved residence in the 500 block of Alfred Street. While on scene, officers observed one of the suspects flee the residence on a scooter. The Drone Unit tracked the suspect in between residences in the 500 block of Redwood Avenue where he was observed discarding property before continuing to flee. Officers tracked the suspect to a residence in the same block where he was located and arrested without incident following a brief foot pursuit.

With guidance from the Drone Unit, officers returned to the area where the suspect was observed discarding property, and located/seized a black satchel containing approximately $6,900 CDN funds and a Glock-style replica handgun.

A search warrant of the Alfred Street residence, executed with assistance from the Tactical Support Team and the Drone Unit, resulted in the arrest of a second suspect. An initial search of the residence led to the seizure of a sawed-off shotgun. A mastiff puppy was also located by officers and conveyed to a veterinarian for treatment as it appeared not to have been properly taken care of. The second suspect was transported to hospital in stable condition and treated for ingestion of an unknown substance.

A subsequent search warrant was obtained for two attached suites at the same address and resulted in the seizure of the following property:

  • Assorted Firearm parts
  • Assorted Ammunition
  • Approximately 23 Grams of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $2,300)
  • Score Sheets
  • A contaminated Scale
  • Packaging Materials
  • Drug Paraphernalia
