Robbery – Arrests: C22-38213

On February 23, 2022, at approximately 1:00 p.m., General Patrol officers from the Central District responded to Portage Avenue and Edmonton Street for a robbery at a bus shelter.

While waiting at a bus shelter, the victim (a male in his twenties) was approached by two unknown males demanding a cigarette. One suspect swung a hatchet striking the victim’s face, while the other suspect brandished a firearm. The victim managed to run away, and both suspects fled on a bus. A Transit Supervisor in the area intervened to help the victim; he declined medical attention at the time.

Officers worked with Transit to identify the suspects who were subsequently taken into custody at Portage/Fort after exiting the bus. Both weapons were recovered, the gun was determined to be an imitation firearm.

Tyler William James ABRAHAM, a 22-year-old male of Winnipeg, was charged with:

- Possession of a Weapon
- Assault with a Weapon
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Fail to Comply with a Probation Order

A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg was charged with:

- Possession of a Weapon
- Assault with a Weapon
- Use of Imitation Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Fail to Comply Condition of Undertaking

Both were detained in custody.
