Homicide –Arrest: C20-185894

As previously released:

On August 6, 2020, at 10:55 p.m., a Central District General Patrol unit was flagged down and advised that an adult male had been assaulted and was in the parking lot of a hotel located in the 100 block of Higgins Avenue. Officers located a male that had been stabbed. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Joshua Robert Jeromiah HANSEN, 29.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Update:

Members of the Homicide Unit continued with the investigation.

On August 11, 2020, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a male suspect was taken into custody in the first 100 block of Martha Avenue.

Further investigation determined prior to the assault on Joshua HANSEN, on August 6, 2020, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the accused attended the first 100 block of Martha Avenue and stabbed an adult male over a minor dispute. The victim was transported to hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

Craig Armand Norman DUCHARME, a 34-year-old male from Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Manslaughter
- Aggravated Assault
- Possess Weapon

On August 16, 2020, a second suspect, a male youth, was taken into custody in the area of Sherbrook Street and Cumberland Avenue.

Further investigation determined the youth accused stabbed an adult female just minutes before the unprovoked assault on the victim Joshua HANSEN. The female was transported to hospital, treated for her injuries and later released.

A 17-year-old male from Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Manslaughter
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possess
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence x2
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x2

Both males were detained in custody.


Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C20-191705

On August 13, 2020, at 6:44 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a beer vendor in the 700 block of Maryland Street for a report of an assault. Two males had been seen assaulting a customer.
 
Soon after, officers located an injured male at the Health Sciences Centre. The male had been brought to the hospital and was admitted in critical condition.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. It is believed that the two males had attended the vendor and stabbed the victim several times for unknown reasons. The victim did not know his attackers before the incident.

Two suspects were identified, and during the evening of August 14, 2020, both were arrested at different residences in the Lord Selkirk Park and West Broadway areas. At the time of his arrest, one suspect was found to be in possession of a knife.

A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Weapon (x2)
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition (x2)
- Fail to Comply with Sentence (x8)

A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

- Aggravated Assault
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x2)

Both were detained in custody.
