Plan Examination
The protection and safety of Winnipeg citizens is of the utmost importance. Thus, the City of Winnipeg Charter requires that all plans for construction be reviewed for compliance with the Manitoba Building Code before a permit is issued.
The Plan Examination Branch examines all submitted housing and commercial plans. The Branch reviews applications from contractors, developers, architects, professional engineers, and the general public. These drawings are then circulated to various City branches involved in the permit process.
Compliance with the appropriate building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy codes, standards, and by-laws must be met before a permit is issued to begin construction.
Please note that information for homeowners, including details regarding home renovation projects such as rec rooms, decks and garages, can be found in the Residential Building Permits section.
