Vehicle for Hire Appeal Board

The Vehicle for Hire Appeal Board is an impartial body appointed by Council that has the responsibility to hear appeals with respect to orders and decisions regulated by the Vehicles for Hire By-law No. 129/2017.

Canadian citizens who reside in Winnipeg and who are entitled to vote in municipal elections are eligible to apply for these positions. Completed applications must be accompanied by a resume and cover letter. Applications must be received by the City Clerk’s Department no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 or postmarked no later than Friday, January 12, 2018.

 

COMPOSITION Five individuals appointed by Council. Council shall appoint a Chair and a Vice-Chair of the Vehicle for Hire Appeal Board from among the members of the Board.
VACANCY Five members
TERM 2 individuals for an initial 1-year term to expire December 31, 2018
3 individuals for 2-year term to expire December 31, 2019
JURISDICTION The Vehicles for Hire By-law No. 129/2017
MEETINGS The Chair of the Vehicle for Hire Appeal Board is authorized to call meetings of the Board and to set dates for appeal hearings.
REMUNERATION Members of the Vehicle for Hire Appeal Board who are not members of Council shall be paid the following remuneration by the City for time spent in attendance at appeal hearings or meetings of the Board:
  1. Chair and Vice Chair
    (i) $190.00 for appeals or meetings of four hours or less;
    (ii) $336.00 for appeals or meetings of more than four hours in length
  2. Other members:
    (i) $109.00 for appeals or meetings of four hours or less; 
    (ii) $192.00 for appeals or meetings of more than four hours in length
