Winnipeg, MB – Accessing information on snow clearing and ice control just got easier for Winnipeggers. Today, the City of Winnipeg launched winnipeg.ca/snow – an online portal that features everything residents need to know about snow clearing and ice control operations.
The portal includes winter parking ban information, a comprehensive FAQ, and – most notably – a new snow clearing status map for major snow plowing operations. Residents can now check on crews’ progress during major plowing operations and residential plowing operations by searching an address and viewing the percentage completed.
During a major plowing operation, residents will be able to search an address, and view the percentage completed by geographic area for Priority 1 and 2 streets, as well as sidewalks and pathways. During a residential plowing operation, residents will be able to search an address, and view the percentage completed by snow zone.
“Winnipeggers will now have better access to City snow clearing, winter parking ban information and more,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “This new online tool will provide direct access to the status of winter operations and is another great example of the City’s ongoing efforts to making the most up to date information available to the public.”
Residents can also view street priority by searching an address on our street priority map, in addition to viewing snow routes on a searchable map.
The new resource also features information about the new winter maintenance improvements for identified Active Transportation (AT) priority routes that will be implemented city-wide, including a searchable map displaying the routes. Under this new system, identified priority AT routes will be cleared within 36 hours after three or more centimeters of snowfall. Prioritization occurred as part of a greater maintenance strategy developed over the last few years in consultation with various active transportation user groups; it supports making daily walking and cycling more convenient and accessible year-round travel modes for people of all ages and abilities.
We encourage residents to visit the new online resource for more information to stay up-to-date on the latest developments.
Annual Snow Route Parking Ban begins Sunday, December 1 at 2 a.m.
The Annual Snow Route Parking Ban takes effect at 2 a.m. on Sunday, December 1. Vehicles may not be parked on streets designated as snow routes between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. from December 1 until March 1, 2020.
Snow routes are clearly marked with signs like these:
Residents are encouraged to check their streets for snow route signs, or if unsure, to search an address on the new snow route map, use the online address lookup tool, download the Know Your Zone app, or contact 311.
Snow routes are a top priority for snow clearing to ensure that emergency vehicles can navigate quickly and safely around the city. It’s important that vehicles are not parked on snow routes overnight in order to enable rapid and efficient snow clearing of these critical routes.
Vehicles parked in violation of the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban can receive a $100 ticket ($75 if paid early), and may be towed to the towing company’s compound.
