The Winnipeg Police Service is issuing a public advisory regarding an assault of a middle-school-age youth that occurred on the morning of March 14, 2022, in the Fort Richmond neighbourhood. The school division has sent out a notification advising the community.

General Patrol officers met with the victim and her family, receiving details of the incident. The report was subsequently forwarded to the Child Investigations Unit to continue the investigation.

Investigators learned that sometime between approximately 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., on March 14, a youth female was walking to school eastbound on Greencrest Avenue towards Ulster Street. An unknown adult male approached from behind and pulled her to the ground. While on the ground, the suspect began dragging her; however, the victim managed to kick herself free, and the suspect fled on foot. She made it home safely, and police were contacted. She did not require medical attention as a result of the assault.

The suspect is described as:

  • a white male in his 20’s to 30’s
  • approximately 5’10” to 6’0” in height with an average build
  • wearing a dark hoodie, dark baggy jeans, a black hoodie/sweater and a toque on his head
  • his overall appearance was unkempt and “dirty”; he wore a black Covid mask on his face

Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying this suspect. Anyone who may have been in the area and have any information is asked to contact the Child Investigations Unit at 204-986-3296.
