In early March 2022, members of the Winnipeg Police Guns & Gangs Unit began an investigation into an individual suspected of trafficking in fentanyl. After a weeks-long investigation, officers obtained a search warrant for a residence located in the 900 block of Weatherdon Avenue.

On March 24, officers arrested the suspect and executed the search warrant. The search of the home revealed:
- 29 grams of fentanyl (ESV $11,600)
- 16 Percocet tablets (ESV $320)
- Approximately $30,000 in cash
- Money counter
- Scales
- Vacuum sealer
- 2 cell phones
- Switchblade knife

A search of the suspect’s vehicle located an additional $3,325 and three more cell phones.

Joshua Ari Matteo SAUNDERS, 28, of Calgary, Alberta, has been charged with:
- Possess Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possess Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl)
- Possess Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Percocet)
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 5
- Possess Weapon

Saunders was detained in custody.
