July is Vehicle Theft Prevention Month — Let’s Keep Our Cars Safe

July marks Vehicle Theft Prevention Month, and we're reminding everyone to take proactive steps to protect vehicles and belongings. In 2024, More than 3,100 vehicles were reported stolen to WPS in 2024. Most of the time, these are crimes of opportunity - which means your actions can help prevent this from happening to you! Here are some tips you can do to avoid being a victim of vehicle theft:

  • Lock it up: Always lock doors and close windows, even if you're stepping away for just a minute.
  • Hide your valuables: Keep bags, electronics, and other items out of sight.
  • Never leave keys in the vehicle: Even in your driveway or garage.
  • Use anti-theft devices: If you're worried about your vehicle's security, steering wheel locks, alarms, and immobilizers are effective deterrents.
  • Park smart: Choose well-lit, busy areas when parking in public.
