Protection of Privacy
The City of Winnipeg needs to collect and use personal or personal health information (information) to deliver some City services, programs, and activities. Everything the City does with your information must be in line with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Act. That means:
- We collect, use, or share only the minimum amount of your information necessary for our authorized purpose.
- We protect the privacy, availability, and integrity of your information through reasonable administrative, physical, and technical safeguards.
- We train our employees on their access and privacy obligations, and they can only access your information if they need it to do their assigned work.
- We keep your information according to the City’s Records Management By-law.

Access and Privacy Complaints
Under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Act, you have a right to complain to the Manitoba Ombudsman about City decisions and actions on access to information and protection of privacy.
Contact their office to submit a complaint if you are not satisfied with the City’s response to your FIPPA request or if you believe the City breached your privacy.
