Attend a public information session about the new permanent fire-paramedic station on Tuesday, April 28th at 7 p.m. at École South Pointe School.
Fast, reliable help for Winnipeg
As our city evolves, we need to ensure our stations are in smart, strategic locations, so crews can get to emergencies quickly when seconds count. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) works hard to keep everyone in Winnipeg safe. We respond to fire-rescue and medical emergencies.
New permanent station anticipated in 2027
WFPS plans to start building the new permanent fire-paramedic station in Waverley West in 2026. The new station will ensure crews reach this area of the city quickly as the community grows.
The permanent station will be built on the site of the South Winnipeg Recreation Campus, near Bison Drive and Ruth Crossing. This location provides strong coverage for homes and businesses now and in the future.
Temporary station in Waverley West
A temporary WFPS station is open at 130 Eaglewood Dr. It houses:
- A fire crew and fire engine
- A paramedic crew and ambulance
Once the new permanent station opens, this temporary station will be relocated to another area of the city.
Why we need new stations
In 2020, City Council approved a plan to modernize the fire-paramedic services resource deployment. The plan showed:
- Many old stations needed major repairs or full replacement
- Some stations are not in the most strategic location now that Winnipeg has grown
- Some stations’ response areas overlap
Updating other stations
WFPS combined Station 9 (864 Marion St.) and Station 15 (1083 Autumnwood Dr.) on the site of the old Station 15.
One fire engine and crew from that area moved to the new Waverley West station. Response times are not expected to be affected because the coverage areas for these stations overlapped.
Construction of the new Station 9 began in 2023 and was completed in 2025.
