Winnipeg, MB - At 2:16 a.m. on January 4, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of fire in a residence in the 900 block of Manitoba Avenue. Upon arrival, crews found a working fire which had spread to the two neighbouring homes on each side.
Crews were able to launch interior offensive attacks in two of the three homes but the third, which was under construction, required a defensive attack. The fire in all three structures was declared under control at 3:37 a.m.
The home under construction collapsed due to fire damage. The other two homes involved in the blaze suffered very significant fire damage, both with collapsed roofs due to fire in the attics.
Two of the three homes were occupied at the time of the fire. Occupants of both of these homes had self-evacuated prior to WFPS crews’ arrival. As well, occupants of two additional homes were evacuated by crews for precautionary reasons. Shelter for a total of 14 evacuees was provided on a Winnipeg Transit bus. No injuries were reported.
The cause of this fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.
